Yet another One Degree tale - a close encounter with someone famous. I used to walk my two Chihuahuas, Chewie and Ernie, at Riverside Park just a block away. I recognized her immediately and would watch her but try not to be too stalker-ish. Sometimes, she had a small child with her but I always got the feeling that it wasn't her kid but maybe a relative's or friend's. Maybe because I hadn't ever read in the movie gossip magazines that she had a kid. I lived on the Upper West Side of Manhattan at 72nd Street and West End.

I remember Lori from Fame and also from a shortlived TV series that I loved called VR.5. I'd see Lori walking around our neighborhood - I think she lived within a block from me.One month earlier on June 17th, 1984 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #89; and on September 16th, 1984 it peaked at #1 {for 1 week} and spent almost a half-year on the Top 100 {24 weeks}...And on September 29th, 1984 it also reached #1 {for 2 weeks} on the Canadian RPM 100 Singles chart...Between 19 he had ten Top 100 records, his next biggest hit was "Every Step of the Way", and it peaked at #25 in 1985...John Charles Waite celebrated his 62nd birthday twenty four days ago on July 4th, 2014. Most of us have had that feeling, telling our friends and ourselves that you're "over" that other person; you're fine and ready to move on. That's why it was such a big hit, it had almost universal appeal to both men and women. I love the possibilty that while Tina Turner's "What's Love Got to Do With It" was #1 on the charts and John Waites' "Missing You" was #2, Tina was listening to John's song and saying to herself, "I love that song!" Her version thumps a lot more than John's, but I love both and play them back to back all the time.

I'm a huge John Waite fan, have all his solo and Babys albums. Saw him in small venues 3 times, and even have a picture of John and I.

How old were you when you appeared in the “Missing You” video? I was really excited since this was my first main role on video. I remember hanging around after I was finished shooting to watch them shoot John Waite perform the song in a nightclub. Kort [Kort Falkenberg III], the director, was wonderful to work with as [was] everyone else involved with the production, from hair and makeup, costuming, and the crew. There is a dinner scene where we are breaking up and I am supposed to be crying. I loved that song and still do every time I hear it. I don’t really remember what my parents thought of it. Did you watch the MTV World Premiere of the video, and if so, where and how did that feel? I probably watched it with the director and the producer, but I don’t really remember. I told her I was the girl in the video and she thought I was John Waite’s girlfriend in real life. That actually happened more than once where people thought I was his real-life girlfriend.

(If any of you out there knows how I can get some copies of VR.5, I'd be totally psyched! Again, not trying to be stalker-ish, I did see her going in and out of a building on 72nd closer to Riverside Park.

I almost walked up to her to say hi once but couldn't think of anything to say.

I figured anything I said would make me look like a stalker.

On July 28th 1984, John Waite performed "Missing You" on the ABC-TV program 'American Bandstand'...
